Palanca
What is
palanca? What is a palanca letter? A palanca letter is one that is
sent to the candidates and team, informing them of the prayers and sacrifices
that you are offering to God on their behalf. A letter may be sent
explaining what type of palanca is being offered, but the letter is NOT the
palanca. The actual palanca is the action - intercessory prayer,
sacrifice, or works of mercy, and it can be done without writing a letter.
Palanca is prayer. Prayer that we offer up for the sake of
others. This prayer can take on many forms:
- Playing
"Taxi" for your kids;
- A kind word to someone who needs
it;
- Helping a neighbor;
- Working in the kitchen;
- Baking cookies;
- Praying the Rosary;
- A written note to someone on a weekend.

PALANCA BOARDS
Everyone in the Cursillo Community is given the opportunity to do Palanca for the upcoming weekends. We have created
on-line Palanca Sign up sheets (Chapel Visit or72 Hour Vigil).
To refresh your memory the Chapel Visit requires an
individual to come to the Catholic Center and sit in prayer in the Palanca Chapel at a designated time during the weekend.
The 72 Hour Vigil does not
require the individual to come to the Catholic Center but, at a designated time of
their choosing, to spend time in prayer, thought or action for the team and candidates. This time can be in the comfort of their own home, school or
work place. Go to the WEEKENDS
page, view and print the appropriate Palanca form, and sign up.

"It's not too early to start thinking about the upcoming
weekends. The teams have been in formation for several months. It is now our
turn to get involved. If you are interested in signing up for the 72-Hour Vigil
or Palanca Chapel please call Jean Cate (781-4002) for a time and date.
