       AWARE
Diocese of Covington Cursillo Movement

February, 2009 Newsletter

Note: If you received this AWARE by US Mail and did not get it by e-mail and would like to save the movement the postage cost for each mailing, send your e-mail address to jeffj@waltzbusiness.com and your address will be added to the list for receiving this and other Cursillo information by e-mail.

From the Lay Director - Carolyn Bosch

Dear Cursillo Community:

Thank you to our dance committee, led by Vic and Barb Boelscher. The first DeColores Dance was so much fun, 150 people attended, the food, the company, the music, the camaraderie were wonderful. Bishop Foys joined us and told us he is so glad we are alive and well in the Diocese. Thank you Bishop Foys for your kind words. If you missed it this year, you will want to be sure to join us next year.

Thank you for your generosity in our annual pledge drive, so far we have collected $5,500 for our movement! This is absolutely wonderful, thank you so much.

The first Ultreya at St. Bernard was held on January 21st. It was a booming success. There were many people in attendance. Thank you one and all for making this happen and for your participation.

We need your help: to serve meals for the weekends, to do palanca, to pray in the chapel, to pray at home, to join us for the closings. If you would like to help serve meals, please contact Dan Heck on the web or at 859-802-8697 and he will direct you.  We are all very excited about the up and coming weekends. Talk to Jesus, ask Him who He wants you to talk to, and then talk with them about making a weekend and moving into their 4th day experience. Get them ready.

We have talked about the changes for our upcoming weekends. Please be sure you are aware of these, they are very important. There will be no Mass for any closings; there will be the witnesses from our new baby chicks, a prayer service and a reception. All of this will take place at St. Anne Convent on Route 8 in Melbourne, Kentucky. As you go to St. Anne, do not speed, you will get a ticket. Since there is no travel time, the times for the closings will be earlier. They will begin at 3:45 p.m.  Please be at St. Anne's by 3:15 p.m., come through the front doors of the Convent, we will direct you to our "hiding" place. Closing dates are February 22nd for the Men and March 8th for the Women. Hope to see you all there.

DeColores,

Carolyn Bosch

Directions to St Anne's Convent: From Kenton and Boone Counties take Interstate 275 East to the Wilder Exit. At the end of the exit turn right. Go to the 3rd light and turn left at McDonald's onto Pools Creek/Geiman Road. Follow this to the top of the hill, go over US 27 and go straight onto Route 1998. Follow this to the end of the road and turn right onto Route 8. Follow this for 2-3 miles and St. Anne convent will be on your right. Directions will be on the grounds.

CURSILLO- Dan Heck

As we approach the Spring '09 weekends we ask for everyone's cooperation and patience. I'm sure by now, you are aware, we are moving to St. Anne's Convent in Campbell County. St. Anne's is a very large complex and until we are there actually putting on weekends there we won't know the obstacles we will face.

Tom Bartlett and I recently visited the campus and came away impressed with the cleanliness and beauty of the surroundings. We were fortunate to run into Sr. Grace who was helpful and told us she remembered years ago when the Cursillo held weekends at St. Anne's.  I knew we held weekends there but it was pretty neat to meet someone who remembered the movement being there so many years ago.  I guess it made me realize this move is not that big of change, it's a return to an earlier location.

I am confident that the Holy Spirit will see us through. I ask the entire community to pray continuously for the success of our Movement.  Pray especially for Chris Dillon and Barb Vogel our team rectors this spring.  They and their teams have worked hard and prayed hard to make the '09 spring weeks successful.

We still need some prayer groups to help serve meals and clean up afterwards for the Men's/Women's weekend. If your prayer group is interested in helping please contact me at dhecks@hotmail.com and I will work with Chris' and Barb's team to see what meal and times are available.  It is important to remember that the server numbers is restricted to 6 to 8 servers. Prayer Groups are ideal for this Palanca since they are usually not larger than 6 to 8 members.

POST CURSILLO - Tom Barlett

Ultreyas - Third Wednesday of the month @ 7:00 p.m. at St. Bernard, Dayton

School of leaders - Mark Krahe

The school is doing well.  We have averaged about 20 Cursillistas at each session and by most accounts they are learning a lot about the movement and about how to pass on the Good News.  We are studying the Fundamental Ideas of the Cursillo Movement and 1st Conversations at Cala Figuera. These books are core literature of the movement.  We do one chapter in each book each session; and we are learning a whole lot about the Cursillo Movement - imagine that!  If you really want to get more involved in Cursillo and pass on the gifts you so joyfully received, invest 2 hours a month and join the school.  The one you bring to Jesus maybe, who knows, just about anyone.

ULTREYA INFORMATION UPDATE

Ultreya is a Spanish word meaning onward.  Pilgrims in Spain would shout Ultreya to encourage others to keep moving onward to the destination of their pilgrimage.  In Cursillo we use the word to mean a gathering of cursillistas whose purpose is to encourage each other to keep moving onward on our journey with Christ.  Ultreya is a time for Group Reunions (Prayer groups; Friendship Groups) to meet with members of other Group Reunions to pray and share their journey.  The Ultreya is beneficial in providing the support and encouragement that each of us needs to keep moving “Onward – Ultreya”.

The Covington Cursillo Movement hosts Ultreyas in:
Campbell County
at St Thomas Parish - on the third Thursday of each month at 8:00 p.m.
Kenton County
at St Pius X Parish - on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.

 Palanca Boards & Chapel Palanca

Please help fill every spot on the palanca boards to show our candidates that we are praying for them, leveraging them onward to a great encounter with Jesus, themselves and others.  Call Jean Cate at 781-4002 and give her the times you want to pray for the candidates.
